Maggie Ryan creates a wonderful story set back in time during the heights of the Oregon Trail. Great attention to detail makes you feel as if you are experiencing what might have happened back then. I really liked Anna - she was feisty at first, willing to speak her mind and able to overcome what could have been a very damaging event. Richard was loving to Anna, supportive, but also overly strict. He told her and her father many times that he loved a woman with fire and spirit, yet every time she showed some spirit, she was scolded or punished. Richard also didn't care that he embarrassed or humiliated her in public. I felt that the Anna we saw at the beginning of the story was very different from the Anna on their journey. She was rarely spirited except when "sassying" Richard, and never seemed able to offer her thoughts or opinions. There were many touching moments between the couple, but his excessive punishments and inability to allow her some feistiness took some of that away for me. 3.5 Stars

Learning to be a pioneer.........from young girl to wife and mother.

This was the story of Anna and Richard. Anna , a young 18 year old girl, married to a childhood love.
They marry and then travel to their new home on the west coast. It is a long journey where Anna
learns what it means to be a pioneer. She also learn how to please her husband sexually. There are
spankings throughout. Some of the spankings are with paddle and belt and strap. She is switched.
All of these spankings are for putting herself at risk or for sassing or doing things a young 18 year old
would do. Anna has to really grow up during the journey. It has a happy ending. There are a lot of graphical sexual
scenes and a lot of spankings, some deserved and some not so.

Punished Pioneer

I almost gave this book a 2 star rating but Maggie Ryan is a gifted writer. Let me explain. This story started very well, a page turner. I love both Characters Richard and Anna. They are a lovely passionate couple. The problem I had was the overly harsh punishments. I have never considered myself a feminist, however when someone continues to spank,paddle and switch someone, sorry but I could not continue to tell them I deserved it and how much I loved them. Richard loved the fact that Anna was feisty but I thought he was trying to break her spirit. When her bottom was too raw to spank he started on her legs and knew that her wool socks would cause a terrible itch and then after soaping her mouth asked if she would like to pick berries to help rid her mouth of the taste. I know divorce was not allowed but I would have strongly considered it. Again, Maggie Ryan is gifted and I love this type of genre but just too much punishment.
